Welcome to Nellie's English
Projects, a free sharing non-profit initiative that I developed
in 2003.
My name is Nellie Deutsch and I am
passionate about learning and collaborating with educators
and other learners around the world. I have a Doctor of
Education (EDD/CI) in educational leadership specializing in curriculum
and instruction from the University of Phoenix online. I
researched instructor experiences implementing technology in
blended learning courses worldwide. I conducted a qualitative
phenomenological study and interviewed instructors from 7
countries. I started my academic career in chemistry, social
sciences, and political science, but ended up with a major in
English literature and linguistics for my BA. I also took two
masters programs, in Applied Linguistics in English as a Foreign
Language and in Education specializing in curriculum and
technology (MAEDCT) from the University of Phoenix. As a
believer in life-long learning, I founded Integrating
Technology Moodle in 2006 so I could
promote free e-learning worldwide. In August 2009, IT: Exploring
New Domains took on a new look and became Integrating
Technology for Active Lifelong Learning (IT4ALL). The leading
team in the first year of IT4ALL(2009-2010) were Dariem Garces Urrguiza,
Gladys Gahona, Dr. Ludmila Smirnova, & Jenni Parker who created Moodle for Teachers (M4T) workshops. The site now hosts free M4T
Orientation, Beginners, Intermediate, Advanced and Moodle for
Administrators. The M4T advanced workshop
includes Second Life and Moodle. Credit goes to Dr. Glen Gatin
who started the initiative.
In addition to my online
ventures, I am a veteran EFL (English as a
foreign language) teacher. I have been teaching for over 30 years within the public school system, adults at university,
in private ESP (English for special purposes) schools, in
blended learning and
English courses for Cisco,
and online asynchronously on
Wikieducator
and ning (Digifolios
and Integrating
Technology) and synchronously on
WiZiQ.
In addition, I practice Reiki Alexander technique, and
mindfulness and conduct marriage
and relationship workshops according to
P.A.I.R.S
(Practical Application of Intimate Relationship Skills).
Nellie Muller is my maiden name. I decided to honor
my
father by using it as the domain name for this website. My decision to build a website
began a long time ago when
my son built his own website at the age of 12 in the mid nineties when there Microsoft FrontPage
was not available. Building a website looked
complicated, but very exciting. In January 2003, I began playing around with FP
at the advice of a colleague. Before long my dream was fulfilled. I was
able to manipulate HTML.
My family
also
keeps
me busy. My husband and I raised 3 very talented children. We have been married
since 1980.
In my free time,
I mentor educators and help them become aware of the value of integrating web
2.0 tools for instruction and learning. I created free
professional development courses on a Moodle website called
Integrating
Technology for Active Lifelong Learning (IT4ALL). I do this on a
voluntary basis with a team of facilitators because I am passionate about learning and would
like to see e-learning available and free worldwide.
I read a great deal
mainly non-fiction, but I love writing both fiction and non-fiction. I
am in the process of writing a story which I hope to publish very soon.
My favorite subjects are
psychology, marriage
and relationship enrichment,
philosophy
of life and life long learning, learning about education and technology and ESL/EFL. I am
a certified
PAIRS
marriage
and relationship instructor. I have been volunteering my services
in prison
and community centers. It is very rewarding to conduct workshops to help others. I provide
online coaching services on marriage, relationship enrichment, and self-growth and
English lessons.
I guess I must be doing something right because I received an
award for my online facilitation.
I read a great
deal about language teaching and learning. I am particularly
interested in
Invitational Education, Meaningful and Experiential learning. I believe every learner has the right to
learn what is meaningful for her/him. I think learners should be encouraged to
find meaning in school
subjects. Learning should be
meaningful and fun. Each learner should find his unique and special style of learning.
Thom Hartmann has excellent books on the subject.
I love
gardening. I have always enjoyed gardening. I even had a garden as a child. Plants, flowers and trees
bring me joy. I love nature. In addition, I jog from 5 to
10 kilometers daily. One of these days I hope to complete a Marathon
in less than 5 hours. Running is a booster. I
can't survive a day without it. I have a great
online coach. I also practice
Chi Kung, Reiki, Mindfulness, and the Alexander Technique.
I believe
having the right attitude is
the key to success and that life should be
lived and enjoyed moment by moment. I
use Ken Keyes' 12 Steps to Higher Consciousness when things
are rough and try to follow the old Chinese proverb: "Drop by drop the bucket
is filled moment by moment awareness is developed". I
believe in living the "now" as Tolle Eckhart has expressed so well in his book, and leaving the past
and future where they belong. I am a
great believer in making mistakes because that's how I learn.
As a believer in sharing ideas with others, I hope I have
contributed to your enrichment. For further information,
questions, comments, or to report a broken link, please
contact me by email.
May
your inner success shine and bring you a lot of great
circumstances.
